Medical Outreach in the Dominican Republic
Organized by: Genevieve Hasek
EVENT DATE May 20, 2014
We are raising money to cover the costs of medical supplies, our donation to the mission house outside the camp, and our travel costs. Money raised will be used to cover expenses in that order, with most going directly toward medications and supplies to provide care, including bandages, antibiotics, rapid HIV tests, and antiparasitic medicines.
Two of our group have visited this village before, and the need is great. Our ultimate goal is to create a sustainable relationship with the full-time volunteers working in the village, so that medical care can be accessible year-round.
Our group is made up of 3 Family Medicine docs, 1 HIV specialist, 1 ER doc, and a PA with experience in the ER and Orthopedics. We also hope to provide some educational sessions on managing diabetes and high blood pressure as well as HIV prevention, however, the need for direct patient care will be so great, it will likely take priority. We will keep you updated as our trip unfolds. Thank you for your donation!
