Hello friends! Thank you for stopping by my fundraiser :]
My name is Dana. I am a pre-physician assistant student with a huge passion for health, the medical field, and making an impact in the lives of others. I graduated from Oregon State University in 2013 with a bachelor's degree in Microbiology. Since then I have been traveling throughout Europe and the United States. More recently, I have been working as an EMT in Southern California while completing pre-requisite courses. Before beginning PA school and continuing my education, I want to participate in a volunteer mission that will allow me to use my skills and training to help improve the lives of others. With this goal in mind, I researched opportunities all over the world and I finally stumbled on Clinica Esperanza.
Clinica Esperanza is a non-denominational, non-profit Christian organization dedicated to the belief that healthcare is a basic human right. Located on the largest island of Honduras, the clinic provides low to no cost medical care to the people of Roatan where they serve between 80 and 100 patients a day. The clinic also holds outreach clinics, community health education programs, and school health screenings for vision and oral health. The Clinic provides a needed service to people who would otherwise not seek treatment due to costs and the crowded condition of the local public hospital.
In June 2016 I will be traveling to Roatan to volunteer at Clinica Esperanza for 8 weeks. During this time I will also be participating in their International Medical Spanish Elective (IMSE) course which provides clinical and language instruction for students to become proficient in evaluating patients, and communicating with other healthcare professionals. I am hoping to raise funds that will exceed the cost of the elective course, as well as travel and living expenses. I will use these excess conributions to buy much needed supplies for the clinic, and donate directly to the organization itself.
Please visit Clinica Esperanza's website to learn more about this wonderful clinic and the great people that are a part of it!
Feel free to contact me with any questions and thank you so much for your interest in helping me in this cause!
Warmest wishes, Dana
