THE STORY:

Project Medishare was founded in 1994 by Dr. Bartholomew Green, chief of Neurosurgery at the University of Miami Hospital. Their home base in Haiti has been a community clinic in Thomonde (Central Plateau) until the earthquake of January 12, 2010 when they immediately moved to PAP, setting up the first makeshift tented hospital on the runway of the PAP airport.

After performing hundreds of surgeries within those first months they set up shop in June at Hopital Bernard Mevs, a hospital structure that miraculously withstood the quake but was not operating in any functional capacity.

Since then they have established an ER, ICU, medical/surgical inpatient ward, neurology/neurosurgical ward, NICU/PICU, two state of the art operating rooms, postanesthesia care unit, prosthetics labs, outpatient clinic, triage area, 4 separate sleeping barracks for visiting staff and an amputee soccer team.

The outpatient clinic saw 650 patients that week. That is almost 100 patients per day, seen by 3 Haitian nurses, 6 Haitian doctors and 4 American doctors. When the visiting staff is plentiful the clinic has a much better day.
