Meeting Long-Lost Family Members
Organized by: Ian Hites
EVENT DATE Dec 15, 2016
Back then in the 1930's my family was divided. My grandfather's father left Russia (came to Chile) in order to escape from the Soviet Union Pogroms (an organized massacre of a particular ethnic group, in particular that of Jews in Russia or eastern Europe). The rest of my family went to Palestine (now Israel) looking for a new life and opportunities. My family was really poor and there was no way to keep in touch.
Years & years came along and my great-grand father died, and with him his memories. My grandfather knew little about the rest of his family and sincerely there was no way we could even contact them until something really impressive happened. Since 1949, one year after the State of Israel was founded, the Defense Service Law gave the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) the authority to enlist any citizen in the army. One of the enlisted individuals (Almog Salomon) resulted to be one of my Long-Lost family members. At the age of 22 he finished his military service and just like many other ex-soldiers do, he began his trip to South America. He came to Chile with a clear objective, look for his lost family and FOUND US, he only had a photograph and a couple of names! Over five years have passed and I have never had the chance to travel to Israel and meet them, and that is the main reason of this campaign.
The money is required to purchase the two-way tickets, buy gifts for my whole family in Israel, and for all the daily expenses like eating, and short-term rentals in a house.
I currently live in Chile, South America. This is a huge problem because Crowdrise only works in United States and Canada, nevertheless, an uncle lives in New York and he will send me the money. Im really looking forward to meet my family, would make me really happy! Thank you for your time.
