Mega Blitz: A Cause for Alarms Photo

The Story

To expand our impact, the Red Cross across the Michigan region is coming together with volunteers and install hundreds of smoke alarms in a single day on April 29, 2017, in our first MEGA BLITZ and raise $1 Million to benefit the Home Fire Campaign.

What is the Home Fire Campaign?

Seven times a day, someone dies in a home fire. Every 40 minutes, an injury from a fire is reported. Nearly 1,000 times every day, fire departments are called to home fires. For the past 20 years, these numbers have been relatively stagnant. By mobilizing the power of volunteers and the generosity of donors, the American Red Cross and our coalition partners will attack the stagnation. In an unprecedented, nationwide effort to combine new technology and innovation with old-fashioned neighbor-to-neighbor outreach, we will save lives, reduce injuries, and cut down on needless losses. Our goal is to reduce the number of fire deaths and injuries in the United States by 25% by 2020.

Since launching the Home Fire Campaign, we have installed over 15,000 smoke alarms statewide, and have documented 2 saved lives in Michigan, with 111 lives saved across the country.
