BENEFITING: ALPHA EPSILON DELTA
EVENT DATE: Apr 23, 2016
Awarded the prestigious international award Student-Driven Program of the Year at the 2016 ACUI National Conference in New Orleans, Louisana, on March 22, 2016.
What started as a fundraiser to raise money for the Haiti earthquake relief efforts, the Mega-Musical Chairs Fundraising Event has evolved into a fundraiser to help all! The gigantic game combines the warm memories of childhood games with the spirit of competition. Not only will players enjoy themselves and play a competitive game of musical chairs, but they will also be giving back to their community; for, all proceeds of the fundraiser goes to the winner’s non-profit *chair-ity* of choice! Past winning charities have been the Clinton Bush Haiti Fund, Fallen Heroes of America, and USA Children and Women's Hospital.
You may wonder, “Why not play for one philanthropy rather than letting the winner choose the charity?” The ideology behind the fundraiser is to underscore an understanding that adversity and exploitation are international problems that cannot be neatly localized to any one region of the world. Through this event, we hope to educate the students here on the duties and obligations required of all future leaders while also teaching them vital lessons on cultural competency and international issues. As future South Alabama alumni, the weight and responsibility placed upon our shoulders will only grow heavier as we grow older, and it is never too early to begin improving the lives of others. Our opportunity to change the world begins today.
Through the 4th Annual Mega-Musical Chairs Fundraising Event, we hope to provide South Alabama students with a unique vantage point from which students and others alike could gain a better understanding of human suffering that exists outside of our state and country.
