BENEFITING: Hope Water Project
EVENT DATE: Oct 16, 2016
The Girls are back!!! Megan and Karen are fundraising for another great cause!
Our running career together began in 2009. Prior to 2009 neither of us had ever ran long distance but over the years we have trained, fund raised for great causes, and we have earned the title of runners! We are back again, this time to raise money for Hope Water Project.
Hope Water Project exists to reveal Jesus through access to clean water. And as we train for the Detroit ½ Marathon, we ask that you join us in our efforts by donating to Hope Water Project.
During the Olympics this summer it has been impossible not be inspired by the elite athletes. Their drive, determination and strength can be incredibly inspiring, but for every gold, silver, and bronze finisher there are many remaining athletes worthy of acknowledgment. For any event in life, it is human nature to scroll to the top of the results to find the winners. However, it is just as important to scroll to the bottom because here you will find the people who struggled but fought for something bigger than themselves. If we are honest we all know what it’s like to find ourselves in the “struggling” position in life when we are forced to find inner strength as we choose to press on or give up even when we feel forgotten. Hope Water Project focuses their efforts on one such group of people: the Pokot a forgotten group of people in Western Kenya. The Pokot tribe is extremely impoverished, neglected, and marginalized; which is why we are committed to investing in their lives. Over the past thirteen years, we’ve entered into a partnership with the Pokot Outreach Ministry (POM) to provide HOPE – by building one clean water well at a time. Clean water means time-savings and restored health. The hours spent each day looking for water becomes time to work, care for children, and go to school. Water is our most basic and vital need in life. Without it, nothing can happen. Nothing can grow. But with it, everything changes. Clean water quenches thirst — but it also restores health. With access to clean water, life can be given back to a community. This is why we are running! Over the past thirteen years over 100 wells have been installed. With each one, villages have grown, lives have been saved, communities have been formed, and thousands of people have heard the Gospel for the first time. Hope Water Project has witnessed firsthand the amazing impact clean water can have. In 2015, over 85% of Hope Water Project’s total operating expenses were used to install clean water wells with the remaining 5.6% allocated to Development and 8.6% to Administration.
We need your help to reach our finish and to meet our goal of raising $1000. Any contribution, no matter the size, is greatly appreciated. If you cannot contribute please think of us and the entire Hope Water team as we run for clean water for the Pokot Tribe on October 16.
Thank you for your support, and we encourage everyone to keep pushing through your own struggles “for the Spirit God gave us does not make us timid, but gives us power, love, and self-discipline.” 2 Timothy 1:7.
With Love, Megan and Karen
