I started running with my sister-in-law Amy Revak in 2008. I had never really run before and she emails me to ask if I would train/run Grandmas Marathon with her in 5 months. Um...sure, why not!
We did it - we finished! That was the goal. Two years later, we ran it again. Slow but steady!
Then because of life, babies, etc, I took a 4+ year hiatus on long distance running. Now I am back! I really wanted to get into Chicago - both the time of year was good as well as its the flattest course out there! (Amanda Braun and I did a half marathon in June - the hillest course ever!)
Chicago Marathon has a ton of charities from which to choose. I chose Girls on the Run (GOTR) because, as most people know, I am huge into kids being active and healthy. We have an enormous child obseity problem in the USA, especially among low income children. I thought this was a great way for girls to 1) increase their self-esteem, 2) set and reach short term goals, 3) become physically fit, and 4) be around some very positive, supportive adults. By raising money for this charity, we wil be providing support to children, who otherwise would not be able to participate.
I am very excited to run Chicago Marathon!!
