EVENT: Team HITW NYC Marathon 2016
EVENT DATE: Nov 06, 2016
Start spreading the news... this New York City girl is going to run inspired for The Hole in the Wall Gang Camp in the 2016 NYC Marathon!
That's right, on November 6, 2016 (a little under 5 months from now), I will be at that starting line at Fort Wadsworth, Staten Island. Growing up in New York, I watched the NYC Marathon every year, simultaneously amazed by the multitudes of runners crossing the Verrazano Bridge and the strength of the elite runners at the front of the pack. At the time, I wasn't a runner and couldn't imagine actually being a part of it all one day. Ten half marathons and one marathon later, I'm ready for my second 26.2!
Needless to say, I am THRILLED to be able to run 26.2 miles through my favorite city - my home - my heart. I am also thrilled to be running for an amazing charity, Team Hole in the Wall!
Your support will help provide "a different kind of healing" to more than 25,000 seriously ill children and family members throughout the Northeast - all completely free of charge! Team Hole in the Wall has several programs, all designed to help families with children who are very ill. The Hole in the Wall Gang Camp’s signature summer program offers week-long residential Camp sessions for seriously ill children aged 7 – 15 and their siblings. Campers participate in traditional camp activities, while receiving care from a significant, yet unobtrusive, medical presence. There are programs for parents as well. Many families say it is the first time they can truly breathe and enjoy time together as a family (as opposed to being focused solely on caregiving).
As a mom and educator, I was inspired by these programs because of what they provide children and their families. Too often, the cost of taking care of a sick child is astronomical. The financial burden can be great, and families can't afford a camp "splurge". Which is why I am running my second marathon- in NYC- to raise money for an organization that makes it possible for families to attend a camp, worry free.
I will be training weekly to reach my goal of running 26.2 miles strong in November. I am asking that you donate whatever amount you can- no amount is too small - so that I can reach my fundraising goal for Team Hole in the Wall. I truly appreciate your generosity!
I will post training updates throughout the summer and fall so you can laugh at me (er, cheer me on) as I take on this challenge.
