Hi Everybody! Well, my story is a simple one. I don’t have nor am I recovering from a horrible disease. I’m not super old, nor am I super young—I haven’t accomplished anything super-fantastic that I recall, other than completing my Bachelor of Arts degree at the age of 51. I consider myself a regular, average, run-of-the mill person, who just happens to be a “crazy cat lady” (by my own definition!).
Late in 2003 I took in a rather skinny cat that was found wandering in my apartment complex. I quickly recognized this cat as one that had belonged to some people who had moved out over three months earlier. The cat then was a chubby boy and a bit shy with people. This cat was now super thin—and though wary of people, he readily ate some food I put out for him. I managed to get him into my apartment and after a few months he was healthy enough to put up for adoption. A work friend told me about Kitten Rescue, whom she had adopted her two cats from. I contacted Kitten Rescue, and became a Community Foster in order to find a new home for this kitty called Jack (I remembered the name he was called by his former people—who had moved away leaving him behind). Jack was the introduction to my becoming a full-fledged foster for Kitten Rescue. Unfortunately, Jack passed away in 2012, due to various health issues. He was only 12 years old. I miss him immensely, still to this day.
However, having Jack come into my life opened up my heart an household to other needy kitties Currently there are two elderly kitties (among others) with me. Ming Shai, a soon to be 24 (YES - TWENTY FOUR YEARS!) old, and Puma, an FIV+ 17 year old. These two kitties are permanent fosters with me--too old to be re-homed. Ming Shai was pulled out of the shelter she was dumped into at 19 years young. No one knew she had such great genes that she just keeps going!
Throughout my tenure with Kitten Rescue, I have become adept at socializing feral kitties, both small and a few older kittens. Some folks have called me a “cat whisperer” at times—I just tell them that perhaps I was a cat in a prior life! I’ve helped a people to understand how kitties think and how they could better handle some situations—including encouraging others to trap-neuter-return feral kitties, and helping in other ways where I can. Sometimes it’s helping a fellow foster/cat lover with their situation and not just the animal itself.
Kitten Rescue has done some wonderful things for me and the kitties in my care--I feel this a good way to give back!
Please donate to my cause! Thank you!
