Nick Freitag didn't believe in giving up. Inspired by his bravery and determination, the Nick Freitag Memorial Foundation will continue to fight melanoma. The mission of our foundation is two-fold. First, we will fund research to find a cure for metastatic melanoma; a disease that destroyed the life of a beloved son and brother in just over a year. Second, we will honor Nick's determination and spirit by continuing the fight in his name.
Nick was born in Michigan City, Indiana on April 7, 1979 and was a graduate of Michigan City High School, Princeton University and Georgetown Law School. He exemplified an honorable and selfless person who demonstrated pride, loyalty, mental and physical toughness, and determination. Those who were privileged to know Nick had a beautiful friend who truly believed, “Be happy every day.”
He was a practicing attorney when diagnosed with stage 4 cancer in the summer of 2012. No visible signs were evident as Nick ran, swam, boxed and skied. On July 2, 2013, Nick lost his battle against melanoma, but kept hope alive even in his last days.
Our fight to find a cure continues in his honor. Please help us continue Nick's fight!
Melanoma Quick Facts:
Melanoma is the most deadly form of skin cancer and one of the most deadly known cancers.
In ages 15–29, melanoma is the second most common cancer, with the incidence of people under 30 developing melanoma increasing faster than in any other demographic group.
There are few effective treatment options for advanced melanoma and though some patients see a remission, still no cure. The 5 year survival rate for stage 4 patients is only 15%.
It is the fastest growing cancer in the United States and worldwide. Every eight minutes, someone in the United States will be given a melanoma diagnosis and every hour of every day someone will die from the disease.
The Melanoma Research Foundation:
The Melanoma Research Foundation (MRF) is the largest independent organization devoted to melanoma. Committed to the support of medical research in finding effective treatments and eventually a cure for melanoma, the MRF also educates patients and physicians about prevention, diagnosis and the treatment of melanoma.
