This September, during National Hunger Action Month, I will be running to address the problem of food insecurity in Westchester County in the Food Bank for Westchester’s Miles for Meals: 5K Fun Run for Hunger Relief.
In Westchester, there is a meal gap of about 16 million meals. That means 1 in 5 of our neighbors struggle to feed themselves and their families every day. This is not something often thought of as existing in such an affluent county as Westchester, but the problem is real and it is here, and I am working with the Food Bank for Westchester to alleviate this problem, one miles and one meal at a time.
The Food Bank works tirelessly to address the issue of hunger amongst our neighbors, serving as the backbone of supply and support for 300 frontline hunger-relief programs throughout the County. Specialized programs such as their Mobile Food Pantry, Senior Grocery, BackPack and Food Growing Programs help them provide 95% of all food given in Westchester to hungry families, children and seniors as cooked meals or groceries to take home.
The Food Bank is driven by the belief that access to healthy food is a basic right for all people, and I stand behind them 100% in their mission, but I cannot do it alone. Your contribution will help fill the stomachs and hearts of those in need throughout Westchester County!
Thank you so much for your support. !
