Melissa Pellegrino Feczer
The story of Michael is a beautiful one. This big blue eyed cutie stole our hearts from day one. I was hooked from the sonogram where I saw him kicking my belly. I told my husband from this boy he is strong and he is going to move mountains.
We didn’t know at that time what was in store for our little one. My pregnancy was amazing with no signs that something anything was going to be different. The first 24 hours I could not take my eyes off him and the rest of the family couldn’t stop holding him. Until we realized something was wrong Michael couldn’t swallow and breathe at the same time, he was jaundice and his lips were starting to turn grey. Michael was placed in the NICU for 21 days feeding tubes, lights, and oxygen.
The day before Thanksgiving we were able to take him home. He cried for days and anything he ate immediately reacted with him stomach and he was in and out of the hospital for failure to thrive.
Michael was diagnosed with Autism at 18 months old. He was not meeting milestones and still did not meet the growth curve for anything besides the circumference of his head. Big joke in our family no pun intended we all have a noggin full of lots of brains.
Michael began to make progress with Early Intervention in our home for 4 hours a day five days a week. He began to gain weight and meet the growth curves. Things were finally looking up until he contracted Meningitis with a 106 degree fever. He had a 9 ½ minute seizure that resulted in his skills diminishing. Michael was diagnosed with Autism, Cerebral Palsy, and Seizure disorder. Every doctor’s diagnosis sounded worse than the one before. We were feeling hopeless.
Today, I am proud to say, “GO MICHAEL!” You have managed to meet all obstacles with a smile. You Michael Keith are our person! I may be your voice but you are our hearts.
Thank You, to all of our family and friends for the love, prayers, and support. You help us every day Michael’s struggles are real but your support makes them a little easier to handle.
