Hello Everyone! You can now view the pieces that are helping us support the Furniture Bank. :) These pieces were designed and finished to be See More

THE STORY:

Furniture Bank has been a part of my life for over a year now- a fantastic amazing part of my life. Furniture Bank is a local charity that accepts gently used furniture and home goods and redistributes these pieces from the hands of generous donors to families who need help getting up off the floor: refugees (they had a huge hand in helping resettle the Syrian Refugees here in Toronto), formerly homeless, and women and children escaping abusive situations- to name a few. They do this at very little cost to the families (only enough to cover the delivery- so the furniture is free!), and continue to work harder every year to ensure the number of families that come home to an empty home every day is reduced to 0. They say it much better here: http://www.furniturebank.org/ Here are a few stories of those Furniture has helped: http://www.furniturebank.org/furniture-bank-client-stories/ I've been volunteering with them once a week (every Monday morning is my "Furniture Bank" time) for over a year now- a wonderful, wonderful year. I have the honor every week of showing their clients around the warehouse to choose the furniture and home goods that will be helping them begin their new lives. It's always the best part of my week, and the people I volunteer with and work for the Furniture Bank have become part of my family. I always look for more ways to help them, and as with last year, I'll be participating in their biggest fundraising event of the year. Every year, their major fundraising event is a charity auction (or CHAIRity auction, get it? *nudgenudge*) is an annual event called the Chair Affair. Every year designers from around the GTA take plain frames or used furniture and reimagine them to be auctioned off to furnish more homes for families in need. This is the second year I'm participating in the Chair Affair, and I wanted to step things up a few notches- I took on three pieces and not just one- and I wanted to make sure these pieces were of the highest quality worked on my top-notch workmanship. To this end, I decided I don't want to ask these amazing craftsman to do the job for free, I'm going to pay them for their amazing work. Very generous of me! However, I would like to humbly ask some help to cover the costs of redoing the chairs in the highest quality, and hopefully raise some money for the Furniture Bank! The bills for the three pieces will add up to $1450, but I'm only asking for $1200 of that. If by some huge act of generosity I get more than that- every penny will go to the Furniture Bank to help furnish more homes for families in need. I hope to not only raise a lot of money at the auction for the Furniture Bank, but hopefully use this opportunity to raise some funds for them as well. To give you a sense of perspective: every $250 that is donated to the Furniture Bank helps to furnish an entire home for a family in need- so the money goes a long way! I thank you very much for any contribution you can make, however small! <3 I know I have some amazing friends, family, and colleagues, and I thank you from the bottom of my heart for taking the time to consider this!
