As many of you know, I've spent the past 4 years (oh how time flies...) volunteering with an amazing organization called iMentor whose mission is to build mentoring relationships that empower students from low-income communities to graduate high school, succeed in college, and achieve their ambitions by pairing them with awesome mentors (like me!) from professional backgrounds.
As a mentor, I've spent the past four years helping to guide my mentee through the jungle that is high school - all with the ultimate goal of helping her be the first person in her family to go to college! We've met in person once a month to discuss everything from how to survive the SATs (and general stresses of high school) to mock interviews for her summer internship to my own college experiences. My mentee is now counting down the final weeks of her high school experience, eagerly waiting to hear back from all of ten (!) colleges she applied to and trying to decide where she wants to spend the next four years. (I know I can't take full credit for it but she is leaning towards studying business and accounting...)
BUT this isn't just about me and mentee - it costs $1,000 per year to support each mentoring pair, and with iMentor expanding into several new cities this year (I'm looking at you Chicago and Bay Area), I'm so excited to raise some funds to help this stellar organization continue to grow and impact more lives.
I appreciate any donation you can make to help support me & my mentee (and the other 3,500 pairs in NYC)!
