BENEFITING: Child's Play
I've been trying to decide on a new project for a while now, but there are SO many organizations and causes that need and deserve support which always makes it hard to pick one to focus on.
With the holiday season pretty much upon us, I thought it would be appropriate to choose an organization/cause specific to this time of year. Last year, I found out through Crowdrise of course, about a wonderful non-profit called Child's Play. Their mission is pretty simple. They want to make the experience that far too many children have, living in a hospital for long periods of time in order to get treatment for cancer or other serious illnesses, a little more bearable.
How do they do this?
By using donations to provide these children with toys, books, and video games to give them a little more enjoyment or if nothing else a distraction or at least a brief escape from the terrible situation they are in. They have children's hospitals from all across the nation ask the kids to make a wishlist, and then they make an overall wishlist for each hospital with all the requested toys, books, and games through Amazon.com.
If you'd like to check the wishlist of your local children's hospital and purchase a gift or two yourself to have sent to the hospital for that special child who asked for it, check out the map of hospitals here:
http://childsplaycharity.org/ (from the homepage, click view hospital map, find and select your local hospital and you will be taken to Amazon.com and shown all the wishlist items.) It's a pretty incredible concept.
If you'd rather just donate through Crowdrise to help support the purchase of new toys, games, and books by the organization, that's great too.
I'd love to raise $350 by December 25 (Christmas Day), and I think we can do it in a little over a month. Let's give it a try. I really think what this organization is doing is great, and so important, not only this time of the year, but always. If you agree, donate or check the wishlists yourself through the website. :)
Thanks so much for reading!
