Hello friends! This will be my third time participating in the Oklahoma City Memorial races, and my second time as a half marathon participant. During my first race I met a woman who told me that when she runs the OKC marathon and sees the 168 banners with each victim's name on them, she thinks of the strength, determination, and endurance the friends and families of the victims must have to get through each and every day without them. If they can do it, she can push through a couple of hours of pain in her running shoes.
The money raised from the Oklahoma City Memorial Marathon helps keep the memorial and museum open as well has benefits families of the victims through scholarships and other programs.
This year, the race organizers are trying something a little different:
"We encourage you to become Tied to Our Mission. Each participant who creates a personal fundraising page and raises a minimum of $15 will receive a pair of limited edition 2013 Memorial Marathon green laces from New Balance. Our goal is to have every foot on the course in 2013 Memorial Marathon green laces on race day to show how Memorial Marathon participants are Tied to Our Mission and are running to remember!"
If you feel so inclined to help support the Memorial and their programs, any donation will be appreciated.
