Public Prep, a network of single-sex elementary and middle public schools serving primarily low-income, minority students, is determined to place students on predictive path to earn a degree from a four-year university.
This year, as part of our annual campaign for college completion, we are hosting the Public Prep Memorial Day 5K: Race for College Completion on Monday, 5/30/16 on Roosevelt Island. Join Public Prep and our Title Sponsor, NY’s 529 College Savings Program, as we support our scholars along their path to success in grades PreK-8th, high school, college, and beyond. Form a team, donate, and spread the word as we Race for College Completion! Learn more about our college completion initiative here.
Fewer than 1 in 5 NYC public high school graduates complete college, and Public Prep is committed to addressing the factors that prevent college completion for our scholars. We provide an exceptional PreK-8th grade educational foundation for our boys and girls to place them in top independent, parochial, and public high schools. In addition, Public Prep schools address other barriers to college completion early on – including family and scholar commitment, financial preparation, and non-cognitive skills such as emotional intelligence.
Our scholars step on college campuses beginning in Kindergarten through annual field trips. In addition, dozens of accomplished professional men and women flood our classrooms to share stories of perseverance and success during our annual College and Career Week in May. College partnerships include Cornell University, Stephens College, and more, enabling students to take advantage of state-of-the art science labs and college-level professors and course work.
