BENEFITING: NYRR Youth Programs
Join NYRR in making a donation to honor the memory of nine-time New York City Marathon winner Grete Waitz, who died in April 2011 following a long battle with cancer. Your donation will support NYRR Youth Programs and Active Against Cancer Foundation. Waitz was the chairwoman of NYRR Youth Programs, which provides running and fitness programs to more than 100,000 children each week in underserved communities worldwide.
Active Against Cancer Foundation funds training and activity centers for cancer patients based on the model of “breathing room” at Ulleval University Hospital. The Foundation funds efforts to prevent cancer by motivating and facilitating increased physical activity. It also supports initiatives to generate revenue for cancer prevention by motivating businesses and individuals to increase physical activity, competitive sports participation, and enjoyment. In 2009, Waitz and her longtime athletic sponsor, adidas, launched in a major fundraising initiative for Active Against Cancer Foundation.
Funds raised will be equally divided between the two charities.
