"The Mental Health Association of San Francisco advances the mental health of the people of San Francisco and leads the global community in advocacy, education, research and supports that promote recovery and wellness while challenging the stigma associated with mental health conditions."
All Movements Begin in the Mind
At MHASF we don't make a distinction between Mental Health and Health. They are one and the same and the importance of a focus on mental wellness cannot be overstated.
Everything that we are comes from that mysterious organ between our ears; our minds. Our hopes, dreams, memories of our struggles and our victories, everything that we believe and hold true. Our mind has the ability to push us forward, to make us move. It can also help us to move others.
Our entry into the SF Marathon is a promise that our minds will push our legs to move forward one step at a time until we reach the finish line. And our hope is that our movement on July 29, 2012 will help push the movement to end stigma surrounding Mental Health and inspire you to join our movement. If you can't join in our physical movement, at least you can join in our social movement.
All you need is a mind and the support of others.
On July 29th MHASF launches The Center for Dignity, Recovery, & Stigma Elimination: designed to advance significant social change in reducing the prejudice, shame, discrimination and stress associated with mental conditions and improving social inclusion of persons who suffer from mental illness.
DignityandRecoveryCenter.org is the first research, training and technical center focused on stigma reduction led and staffed by people with lived expertise of mental illness.
