Dr. Odis Odean Rhodes was the first Black American to teach at Stephen F. Austin University in Nacogdoches, Texas in 1968. He was a trailblazer who always believed in giving back to his community. The best way to give back, was to educate children that fell through the gap so they would be able to compete in the world we live in. The purpose of Dr. Odis Odean Rhodes Foundation, Inc. is to create an after school tutoring program for inner city children, teaching English, Math, Social Studies, and create , mentorship building character and self esteem among our young children. Dr. Odis Odean Rhodes, believed in creating educational programs that would train and prepare every child to reach his or her full potential. However, in high-poverty communities, there are external factors and obstacles students are faced with every day that can interfere with their ability to both get to school and be ready and able to further their learning opportunity. But it's these children who need a bit of extra, individualized support. But there’s a gap between the kind of help they need and the support the schools are designed to provide. Within these communities, children with low grade averages are often swept to the curve so-to-speak, so we’re able to identify and target the specific schools that can help target these ones and offer the assistance needed to give them the necessary support. Dr. Odis Odean Rhodes Foundation, Inc. will partner with public and private schools throughout the USA to find and focused on children who has suffered and fell through that gap and give them the needed help.
