EVENT DATE: Oct 30, 2016
Merrick’s Walk for EDIN is a 2.7 mile walk around Chastain Park with the following purposes:
- To raise awareness of eating disorders,
- To remember those who have lost their battle with an eating disorder
- To raise funds for the Eating Disorders Information Network (EDIN) and support our work to raise awareness, prevent eating disorders and promote healthy body image and positive self-esteem in children, youth and adults in the Atlanta community.
The event began in 2001 in honor of Merrick Ryan, a 19-year old Galloway alum who died from complications of anorexia. The theme of this year’s Merrick’s Walk is “The Force is Within You.” We choose this theme to highlight the importance of focusing less on outside appearances and more on one's inner strength. For many who are struggling with an eating disorder the battle can feel nearly impossible, yet we want to share a message that there is hope and on October 30th, we're bringing a whole community of "heroes" to combat eating disorders together!
It is possible to learn to love your body and to make peace with food. You have the strength to recover! Please join us in our mission prevent eating disorders, increase awareness and promote positive self-esteem.
There will be prizes for the team and individual who raise the most money and prizes for the best individual and team costume. Remember body positive costumes!
