From global causes to local ones, Metallica takes pride in giving back to the community. Metallica has played festivals such as Live Earth, assisting in shining a light on the global climate crisis, and most recently Global Citizen, a social action platform committed to solving the world’s biggest challenges from health to education to the environment and everything in between. Metallica has also donated proceeds from ticket sales and album releases to various charitable organizations including the Greater Vancouver Food Bank, Amnesty International, the San Francisco Giants Community Fund, and Fondation de France’s Give For France. The band recently celebrated the release of their current album in the Fall of 2016 with a series of five shows donating proceeds from all ticket sales to local food banks in New York City, London, Toronto, Los Angeles and Oakland. The members of Metallica are fervent supporters and proponents of the MusiCares MAP Fund, an organization providing financial and supportive assistance for music people in need of addiction recovery services, as well as Little Kids Rock, a nonprofit organization dedicated to getting music programs back into under-served public school districts across the United States and have performed at Neil and Pegi Young’s Bridge School Benefit three times.
Outside of the band, James Hetfield has lent his voice to the fight against pediatric cancer through Acoustic-4-A-Cure, an annual event put on by Hetfield and Sammy Hagar benefiting UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital. Lars Ulrich has taken his love for animals and recently become involved with The Nine Lives Foundation, a non-profit cat welfare organization that works to keep cats out of high-kill shelters and into permanent, loving homes. Kirk Hammett’s passion for surfing led him to get involved with the Surfrider Foundation, an organization dedicated to bringing awareness to issues facing our oceans. And Robert Trujillo has focused his efforts on providing meals for the homeless through work with local San Francisco organizations such as Glide Memorial Church and the St. Anthony Foundation.
In February of 2017, Metallica announced the formation of the All Within My Hands Foundation. The foundation aims to assist and enrich the lives of members of the communities who have supported the band for so many years as well as encourage participation from fans and friends. All funds raised will be donated to a cross-section of national, local and Bay Area charities that the individual band members support, along with continued donations to music education programs and food banks. Metallica is committed to making the world a better place and is enthusiastic about the opportunity to do so with the help of Crowdrise.
