Metroplex Veterans Legal Services manages pro bono Veterans legal clinics for low income, disabled, unemployed, and homeless Veterans in the Dallas, Texas Metroplex and surrounding counties. With our first five legal clinics, we have been able to provide 116 legal consultations to Veterans with legal issues that are not usually addressed, but should be addressed and offered to Veterans in North Texas. Our clinics are providing a simple solution to problems that these Veterans are faced with everyday, but lack the resources to solve on their own. We are committed to helping the Veterans of North Texas with these issues, and to finding other ways in which we can assist these men and women with their legal issues. We have offered two Veterans traffic ticket legal clinics, two Veterans child support modification clinic, and a Veterans expunction legal clinic. Our legal clinics focus on removing the legal barriers so Veterans can obtain employment. One of the big legal barriers for Veterans is suspended driver’s licenses. Driver’s licenses can be suspended due to outstanding traffic tickets and unpaid child support.
Over 70% of the Veterans who have attended our Veterans legal clinics are currently unemployed. We have already seen Veterans who were homeless and living in a shelter who have attended our legal clinics and received legal assistance, and 6 months later are now employed and are living in their own apartment.
Our fundraiser goal is to expand the pro bono legal services we offer to Veterans every month and to add additional legal clinics for bankruptcy, taxes, wills, and other areas of law.
