BENEFITING: Melanoma Foundation of New England
ORGANIZER: Melanoma Foundation of New England
EVENT: 2015 Boston Marathon
NO ONE FIGHTS ALONE!
Welcome to my Melanoma Foundation team "Running for Cover" pledge page! I am honored and excited to be a part of this awesome team.
Did you know that every hour of every day someone in the U.S. dies from Melanoma!
Did you know that 1 in 5 Americans will develop skin cancer in their lifetime and that the incidence of melanoma has been steadily increasing for the past 30 years!
I am running in support of all the individuals and families who have been affected by Melanoma. This includes my colleague Cathy Sanderson who passed away in June 2014 (only 5 months after diagnosis) of metastatic mucosal melanoma at the age of 58.
Mucosal melanoma is a rare form of melanoma, making up less than 5% of melanoma cases. Melanin containing cells (melanocytes) are not only present on the skin, but also on mucosal surfaces of the body (eye, throat, anal-rectal, etc.) and can transform into cancerous cells. Mucosal melanoma is very aggressive and is often caught very late, which unfortunately happened with Cathy. It is for Cathy and others affected by Melanona that I will be running the 2015 Boston Marathon as part of the Melanoma Foundation team "Running for Cover"!
Please help me reach and even surpass my goal of $10,000.00 to support the Melanoma Foundation and crush Melanoma by making a donation today!
Thank you for visiting my site and I graciously thank you for your support and donation.
