On Monday, April 20, 2015, I will be running my third Boston Marathon to benefit the Melanoma Foundation of New England. As many of you are aware, my husband, James, was first diagnosed and treated for melanoma in April 2004. He was cancer free for several years. However, the melanoma recurred in August 2010 and spread to his lymph nodes and lungs. Fortunately, he is receiving wonderful care at MGH and is doing extremely well.
Unfortunately, all too many of us are impacted by cancer. I cannot change what happened to my family, but I can help support the Melanoma Foundation of New England (MFNE) with its mission is to reduce the incidents of melanoma in the New England region through education, prevention and early detection. MFNE hosts a range of educational programs to spread awareness. Two of these programs include Your Skin Is In, a program teaching high school and college students the dangers of tanning, and The Skinny on Skin, which teaches beauty professionals to recognize potential melanomas on the head, neck and scalp of their clients.
I am so grateful to be a member of "Team Running for Cover" and to have the opportunity to run the 2015 Boston Marathon to raise funds to support MFNE's mission. All money raised will be used to fund and expand these educational programs throughout the New England Area.
Your support of this very worthy charity would be deeply appreciated by me and my family.
