BENEFITING: IMPACT Melanoma
ORGANIZER: IMPACT Melanoma
EVENT: 2017 Boston Marathon
EVENT DATE: Apr 17, 2017
HI everyone!! I am running the Boston Marathon this year for the Melanoma Foundation of New England(MNFE). As some of you may know Melanoma, and other forms of skin cancer, runs in my family. This is the main reason I am running for this charity. Not only will I be running for my family members affected by this disease, but also for my "patient match" Katie. Katie is young, sweet, and has an energy about her that is remarkably upbeat and refreshing. She was diagnosed with Stage 2B Melanoma last July. In August she found out it had morphed into Stage 3 cancer. Katie used to be a runner, and even ran the NYC Marathon back in 2011. Having met her and heard her story I am so greatful for this opportunity, and to be apart of the MNFE Boston Marathon Team.
The MNFE helped New England see the first decline of melanoma cases in the entire United States, and second in the world; Australia has also seen a decline in numbers. I encourage everyone reading this to check out the MNFE website and look into what they offer! The money donated goes right back into the commnity and truely does wonders for those with and without Melanoma and skin cancer.
The Melanoma Foundation of New England's mission is to reduce the incidents of melanoma through education, prevention and support. MFNE hosts a range of educational programs to spread awareness. These programs include Your Skin Is In, a program teaching high school and college students the importance of protecting their skin and dangers of tanning; The Skinny On Skin, educating beauty professionals to recognize potential melanomas on the head, neck and scalp of their clients; and Practice Safe Skin Sunscreen providing free sunscreen to communities for their beaches, parks, sports fields and more. MFNE also offers support for patients and their caregivers through support groups and its one-on-one Billy's Buddies program. All programs are free!
Team Running for Cover is running the 2017 Boston Marathon to raise awareness about the importance of protecting your skin and funds to support MFNE's mission. Thank you for your help!
