I am excited and honored to be running for Mass General in the 2014 Boston Marathon! It is my very first 26.2 and I believe that if there is a year to run this race, 2014 is it.
MGH has a special place in my heart as my younger sister, Jaymi, was taken here after she was injured in the marathon bombings. The care and support my family received on April 15th and continues to receive today is incredible. As you can imagine, it is difficult to put into words our appreciation for the MGH doctors and nurses that have helped Jaymi along the way and, more impressively, their ability to keep my nervous wreck of a mother calm.
The support we experienced is a reflection of how they take care of all of their patients, which is why I could not be more honored to run for MGH, specifically Mass General Hospital for Children. I am raising funds and running for the hospital’s pediatric hematology-oncology program, their youngest cancer patients. The money raised will go to research, treatment, and activities for these children.
Please help me in my journey to the finish line!
THE STORY FROM MGH:
Since 1998, with the partnership of John Hancock Financial, the Mass General Marathon Team has raised nearly $9 million to support the pediatric hematology-oncology program at Mass General Hospital for Children (MGHfC). Funds raised are directed to cancer care and research initiatives that enhance the quality of life for the hospital’s youngest cancer patients.
MGHfC has put these funds to good use advancing cutting-edge research, increasing the number of clinical studies to improve cure rates and providing the best treatment possible to pediatric cancer patients. But MGHfC is also focused on the quality of life of its young patients and their families. The marathon program also supports child life activities such as art and music therapy and support services for parents and siblings of patients.
We are grateful for the hard work of all of our runners and the dedication of their family and friends as they go through this historic journey.
The 2014 marathon is going to be one of the most historic 26.2 mile runs ever and we are honored to be a part of it. We appreciate your support. MGH Strong!
