BENEFITING: MASSACHUSETTS GENERAL HOSPITAL
ORGANIZER: MASSACHUSETTS GENERAL HOSPITAL
EVENT: 2017 Boston Marathon
EVENT DATE: Apr 17, 2017
Thank you so much for taking the time to visit my Boston Marathon Fundraising Page. As many of you know, I have been a long-time runner -- from running high school and college track and cross-country to reviving the MGH Running Club and spending what little money I have on too many local road races. On April 17, 2017, I will be running my first-ever marathon -- the amazing, famous/infamous, inspiring, and incredibly special Boston Marathon -- and I could not be more proud to be running for the MGH Marathon Team and fundraising for our pediatric hematology-oncology program. I am asking you now for your help in supporting me and the rest of the Pediatric Cancer Team by donating to our cause.
I began working with the MGH Cancer Center just a couple of weeks after graduating college, and my experience here has been very unique and special, to say the least. I am honored to not only work for this amazing institution, but now to represent it on the Boston Marathon course and support their clinical care and research initiatives in my own small way. Pediatric cancer is one of the key tenets of the new National Cancer Moonshot, spearheaded by VP Joe Biden, and your donations will go directly to advancing research for cancer cures, increasing clinical trials so more young patients can get better care with less financial burden, and enhancing programs aimed at improving pediatric patients’ quality of life.
In exchange for your wonderful donations, I will be offering the following “thank you” gifts* for each person who donates at least the following amounts**:
$26.20 (see what I did there??)......a hand-written thank you note from yours truly.
$50.00......a hand-written thank you note with a poem dedicated to you, personally.
$75.00......a hand-written thank you note with a poem dedicated to you, personally, hand-written in a beautiful script with a decorative border suitable for framing and displaying in your home for the rest of time.
$100.00......a hand-written thank you note with a poem dedicated to you, personally, plus a beautiful hand-colored mandala. I have a 50-pack of colored pencils, so you know it will be good.
$150.00......a hand-written thank you note with a poem dedicated to you, personally, plus a small comic/drawing about you/us/some topical theme/a bad pun that I promise you will love.
$200.00......An invitation to my home, where I will personally cook you a three-course meal.
$300.00......A house call, where I come to your home and personally cook you a three-course meal.
$500.00+......my first-born child. (Just kidding – the only people who I can imagine giving me anywhere near this much are my parents, so it would be their grandchild anyway.) (If you do give this much, I will have to think of a worthy gift.) (Maybe 10 poems? Idk, I’ll get back to you.)
*If you are unsure about making any commitment because you don’t know how you feel about the corresponding gift, please email me for samples of the above listed gifts. My personal poems/drawings/comics are basically priceless, and I would not want you feeling like you are making an unwise decision by investing in one at this time.
**These gifts are additive! So if you look at your account after pay day and can only donate $10, but you donate this much 5 times after 5 different pay days, you WILL receive the $50.00 poem (again, hate to put a price tag on them, because they’re basically priceless.)
Please remember that many work places have MATCHING PROGRAMS, meaning that they will match any donation you make to a charity!! This is super important because it means your donation to my page could DOUBLE if you provide your employer with the proper tax information. Also, your donations are TAX DEDUCTIBLE, so get your donation in before December 31st to have it reflected in your 2016 tax returns!
Here is the info many companies need for gift matching:

A message from MASSACHUSETTS GENERAL HOSPITAL:
Since 1998, with the partnership of John Hancock, the Mass General Marathon Team Fighting Kids’ Cancer, One Step at a Time has raised over $12 million to support the pediatric hematology-oncology program at MassGeneral Hospital for Children (MGHfC). Funds raised are directed to cancer care and research initiatives that enhance the quality of life for the hospital’s youngest cancer patients.
Thanks in large part to the philanthropic dollars raised by this Marathon Team, MGHfC is advancing cutting-edge research, increasing the number of clinical studies to improve cure rates, and providing the best treatment possible to pediatric cancer patients. MGHfC is also focused on the quality of life of its young patients and their families through the child life program, which utilizes therapeutic play - music and art therapy to help pediatric cancer patients and their families cope emotionally and developmentally with their illnesses.
This year, more patients than ever before utilized Child-Life services, which indicates the growing popularity of the programming, the recognition of its importance, and the program’s ability to continue to expand its offerings.
We are grateful for the hard work of all of our runners and the dedication of their family and friends, as they embark on fundraising and training for the historic 26.2 mile race.
