BENEFITING: MASSACHUSETTS GENERAL HOSPITAL
ORGANIZER: MASSACHUSETTS GENERAL HOSPITAL
EVENT: 2017 Boston Marathon
EVENT DATE: Apr 17, 2017
I am excited to announce that on April 17, 2017 I will be running the 121st Boston Marathon for the Massachusetts General Hospital Pediatric Cancer team in honor of Alicia M. Barrett. Alicia was a patient at the MGH Pediatric Hematology and Oncology unit for treatment of Ependymoma Brain Cancer, until she passed on August 28, 2015 at the age of 4 years and 8 months. She was a beautiful little girl that enjoyed being outside and loved her family very much. The passing of Alicia has been a profound loss for her mom and dad (Val and Jamie) as well as her brother and sister (Jason and Brianna). I am thrilled and humbled to have the opportunity to fundraise in honor of such a special girl.
There are so many reasons that I want to run for the MGH Pediatric Cancer Unit, among those reasons are my children Amelia and Nathan. I am incredibly thankful for the health of my children, but I am certain that if they were affected by cancer that I would want and appreciate if someone would be willing to run for them. I cannot begin to imagine having to manage the reality that all the brave parents are living at the MGH Cancer Unit. This April I will respectfully run in honor of Alicia, but also for every patient who desperately needs the care that MGH can deliver.
All funds raised by the MGH Marathon Team will go directly to the MGH Children's Cancer Center to help support pediatric cancer care for children like Alicia. These donations will help support clinical research of childhood cancer, as well as care programs including: art and music therapy, parent and sibling support groups and child life specialists who help patients cope with illness and treatment.
I am dedicated to training as hard as possible this winter to prepare for the race and I truly appreciate your consideration and support. Thank you so much!!
