BENEFITING: MASSACHUSETTS GENERAL HOSPITAL
ORGANIZER: MASSACHUSETTS GENERAL HOSPITAL
EVENT: 2017 Boston Marathon
EVENT DATE: Apr 17, 2017
Hi everyone!! I could not be more excited and honored to run, raise money, and increase awareness for such an incredible organization.
Did you know?
- Cancer is still the leading cause of death from disease among U.S. Children over one year of age.
- Sadly, over 3,000 children with cancer die each year. Thats about every 2 hours, 50 minutes a child dies from cancer.
- The government recently CUT the budget for Childhood Cancer research. As a nation, we spend $14 BILLION per year on the space program, but only $35 MILLION on childhood cancer research per year.
A year ago, I had the opportunity to run the Chicago Marathon for the St. Jude's team and was able to support pediatric cancer research and treatment for those kids in need. I am so happy to have gotten onto my top choice marathon team for Boston and to be able to continue to raise money for kids who really need it. No kid deserves to go through what cancer throws at them. A donation to this charity means pediatric cancer gets more of the funding and research that it deserves.
I would be so thankful for any and all donations towards this charity. The more money I can raise, the more meaningful it will be when I cross that finish line knowing these donations are going to one of the best charities in Boston, and they will that much closer to a cure. Help me get to 26.2 for the fifth time and support an amazing cause!
About Fighting Kids’ Cancer, One Step at a Time:
Since 1988, the organization has raised over $12 million to support the pediatric hematology-oncology program at MassGeneral Hospital for Children (MGHfC). Funds raised are directed to cancer care and research initiatives that enhance the quality of life for the hospital’s youngest cancer patients.
Thanks in large part to the money raised by this Marathon Team, MGHfC is advancing cutting-edge research, increasing the number of clinical studies to improve cure rates, and providing the best treatment possible to pediatric cancer patients. MGHfC is also focused on the quality of life of its young patients and their families through the child life program, which utilizes therapeutic play - music and art therapy to help pediatric cancer patients and their families cope emotionally and developmentally with their illnesses.
