Dear friends and family,
I will be running the NYC half marathon on Sunday March 18th. As I train, I hope to raise money for Autism Speaks, an autism science and advocacy organization dedicated to funding research into the causes, prevention, treatments and a cure for autism; increasing awareness of autism spectrum disorders; and advocating for the needs of individuals with autism and their families.
As most of you know, before moving to New York I worked with children with a variety of mild to moderate learning difficulties and special needs, including autism, Down’s syndrome and global developmental delays. This experience and the relationships I developed with my students, their families and my colleagues had a great impact on me; it led me to NYC where I am now studying for a Masters in elementary education with a specialization in teaching students with disabilities.
As you can imagine, the advocacy of autism and special educational needs in general is very important to me. I am reaching out to all of you to help me raise my target of US$1500 for this great non-profit. No amount is too small and all donations will be greatly appreciated!
Thank you all so much in advance!
P.S. If it snows on the day then I am staying in bed... KIDDING!
