After graduating from the prestigious California Culinary Academy in San Francisco, Michael first put his skills to test at Skadi Restaurant in Mammoth California. In 1997 he moved to Santa Barbara to establish his career in a city well known for its restaurant scene. Michael never looked back while working in the kitchens of Santa Barbara's finest restaurants including Sage and Onion, El Encanto Hotel, Mondial, Elements, Piatti's and the acclaimed Stonehouse Restaurant at San Ysidro Ranch. As a private chef, he provided culinary support from the enclave of Montecito and the shores of San Francisco to the Italian isle of Sardinia and they cays of the Caribbean. Michael is currently the Executive Chef at the Montecito Country Club since 2008. When he is not in the kitchen, he is either playing the drums in his music studio or swinging a club on the golf course. Michael has shared his talent and volunteered his time with several local organizations including The Foodbank, Santa Barbara Culinary Arts, Noah's Anchorage YMCA, Share Our Strength, and Casa Esperanza. He also assisted the Howard School with the development of their volunteer hot lunch program. As a monthly guest chef, Michael prepares lunch for the school while giving culinary instruction to to student helpers. As a native of California and part of the founding family of Long Beach, he appreciates abundance of the regional harvest of land and sea and incorporates it into his cuisine. Michael credits his grandfather, Llewellyn Bixby, with the inspiration for his culinary passion and he is continuously motivated by one simple concept: good food brings people together.
