I would think that everyone who attended our Fifth Annual Rogers Park Community Seder that we held on Monday March 30th was inspired by the speech offered by the 23 year old young man, Vantner Cruz, who spoke about his struggles growing up in the North of Howard area, and how he is overcoming many obstacles to find his place as a productive and responsible member of the Rogers Park community. As you heard, Vantner attributes much of his success to the supportive environment offered by Family Matters - an organization which offered him employment after he was expelled from high school, and which later furnished him support when he faced challenges during his struggles with the criminal justice system.
Vantner has agreed to co-sponsor a Walk A Thon team with me at this year's 26th Annual Walk A Thon, which will be held on Saturday, May 16th. We ask you to support Team Vantner!
Please consider supporting the great work done by Family Matters, an organization which quietly and effectively supports many people's lives and dreams through mentoring and teen focused after school programming, by joining Team Vantner as a walker, or by making a contribution.
We would value a pledge of $10, $20, $50 or even $100 - whatever feels right for you - in support of a wonderful neighborhood organization. As someone who is now serving my fifth year as a Board member, I can attest to how this organization thrives at providing young people a safe place to enjoy their lives, and how the programming helps them learn a path to self sufficency and success.
