Dear Friends,
I thought I was done after my last race in 2012, but I’m coming back to run one more Boston Marathon this year on April 21, to raise much needed funds for the extraordinary athletes with disabilities of Special Olympics. And thank YOU so much for donating to this great cause in 2012. If you haven’t already, will you consider supporting us again one more time this year?

Here’s the secure online donation link: http://www.crowdrise.com/SOMA2014bostonmarathon/fundraiser/jayobrien2

A couple o’ notes:
* INITIALS: If you donate $100 or more, I'll write your or a loved one's initials on the back of my marathon shirt. Just email me the initials or include them when you're prompted to leave a note with your donation. :)

* IF YOU'RE ON THE COURSE: I'm bib #29692 in a red Special Olympics shirt. Start time 11:30am. Should finish around 3:30pm. (God willing!)

* TO TRACK MY PROGRESS: Enter my bib# at: http://www.baa.org/races/boston-marathon/participant-information/att-athlete-alert.aspx.

* PAPER CHECKS: To "Special Olympics" c/o Nicholas Savarese, 512 Forest Street, Marlborough MA 01752. (Write "Jay O'B" in the check memo line and let me know once you mail it so I can track it.)

Please help to the extent you can. Thank you again!

Dear Friends, Just a quick b…
Dear Friends,
Just a quick but heartfelt thanks for your months of support and donations for Special Olympics through the Boston Marathon program. You once again this year stepped up in a BIG way - and the 5 dollar donations mean every bit as much as the 500 dollar ones.

As for the race - the heat was tough, but ultimately bearable. Boils down to this: drink water & Gatorade at the stations every mile, pour cold water over your head any chance you get, and run through every fire hydrant or garden hose someone's opened up for you - all to stay hydrated and keep the body temp down. And this year in particular, having family and friends who could make it to the course to cheer in person really helped.

But whether you were there in person or in spirit, I thank all of you for your support and friendship. I am humbled by your individual and collective generosity.
