Ever since I was a kid, I wanted to run in the NYC Marathon. I have my Uncle Joe to thank as it was he who I followed on my bicycle during one of his "Long Runs" while training for his marathon in the early 80s....
That was a long time ago and it took me a while to get to this point, but I'm finally ready for the challenge.
However, my challenge is nothing compared to those who fight Cancer every day (you know who you are) or those who have succumbed to Cancer (my beloved Aunt Angela). Too many family members and friends have been challenged with Cancer and I have personally witnessed their strength and courage. It is this strength and courage that I will draw from to get me through the last 6 miles.
So in addition to running the marathon, I've decided to raise money for Cancer Research. The Cancer Charity that I have chosen is the "Jimmy V Foundation for Cancer Research". You might have heard his famous speach during the 1993 ESPY awards as he battled Cancer. If you have not, the link is below. Watch the link and you will be inspired.
If you are able to donate any amount, it would be greatly appreciated. My goal is to raise $2,000 but I believe we could do a lot more.
