In 2011 I challenged myself to become healthier. I had a friend that was getting married and he wanted to lose weight for his big day, so he asked me to start working out with him in the early mornings.
So I agreed to be there for him and we got together at the Malden High School Football field every Monday, Wednesday and Friday mornings at 5:15am and worked out in a group setting for an hour on those days. Needless to say it was a tough task. At that moment I realized I wasn't as young as I used to be and found myself heavier then I had ever been. With the challenges of getting fit you find the mental and physical challenges and some people have it and most don't. Well, I had / have it and he did not. He quit going and I continued. The school year ended and that is when I started, when the staff and students returned to school I had lost 40 pounds and the teachers, administrators and students were in utter shock. I was a new man. All new clothes, new facial hair and a new outlook on life. The Boston Marathon was always an accomplishment that I wanted to take ownership of. Now is my day.
