BENEFITING: OKLAHOMA CITY NATIONAL MEMORIAL FOUNDATION
EVENT: OKLAHOMA CITY MARATHON 2016
EVENT DATE: Apr 24, 2016
This will be my very first full marathon and has very special meanings to me in so many ways. The devastation of the OKC Federal building bombing was in my backyard, my heart-land. On that day I was just a few miles away when it happened. A few days later I found myself inside the building as a rescue worker assisting the morgue team with the removal of bodies. I will never forget the images, heroism, and strength of Oklahoma in the days and years to follow. I will never forget those four who I knew and worked with who were just a few of the 168 that did not survive that tragic day. The Mission of the Oklahoma City Memorial Marathon is to celebrate life, reach for the future, honor the memories of those who were killed and unite the world in hope. As many of you know I also had my own struggles with life just 3 years ago with my heart disease. I cannot think of a better marathon that I can tie my future and my life goals then with this particular marathon. Everyone always asks for money but this cause is to keep the memory of those lost alive through education and the memorial. Please help me do my little part in that. If you feel compelled to donate, remember you are donating to the memorial, and not to Michael Raff. I will run my heart out for 26.2 miles this day, thinking of every penny you all give to such a symbolic icon in my life, and the lives of countless others. The Oklahoma City National Memorial & Museum is the sole beneficiary of Oklahoma City Memorial Marathon event proceeds. This is the Memorial’s largest fundraiser. This is not just another marathon. It is a Run to remember…and a race to show that we can each make a difference and change the world.
