Even though I didn't qualify for Boston 2013, I am lucky enough to have the opportunity to participate in John Hancock's invitational program. This means that I will be joining 26,999 other runners on Patriots Day for the longest block party around... and I'll be raising money to end domestic violence in my community.
To that end, my goal is to raise $5000 for the Domestic Violence Services Network, where I've been a volunteer advocate for over 10 years now. DVSN is a unique community collaboration between central Middlesex County police departments and several local nonprofit agencies. Volunteers work closely with victims of domestic violence, and offer crisis intervention services, risk assessment, safety planning, court accompaniment, and resource referrals. More info here: http://www.dvsn.org/
This will be my second time running the Boston Marathon, and my fifth marathon. Let's hope this year doesn't have some crazy weather event. I didn't start running until a few years ago, and I hope I can keep going for many more...
