BENEFITING: The Transverse Myelitis Association

On October 5, 2013, beginning at 8:00 a.m., the TMA Walk-Run-N-Roll Awareness Campaign in Michigan will be held on the campus of Harderwyk Ministries near the beautiful shores of Lake Michigan in Holland, Michigan.

I'm  inviting all of you to donate & walk or run to raise awareness and support of Transverse Myelitis and related neurological disorders.  I had never heard of these disorders until I was diagnosed with acute idiopathic TM in July 2011.  Without warning, I was paralyzed from the neck down within seven hours.  While I am fortunate enough to have had significant recovery over the last two years, there are many stricken with these disorders that do not experience a high level of recovery...I am hopeful that continued research will help increase recovery for all.  I believe with awareness & fundraising we have the ability to shape the future with education & research on TM & other demyelinating disorders supported by the Transverse Myelitis Association.

My team theme "Get a Grip" has a two-fold meaning....remembering how much my recovery has focused on getting my arm & grip strength back...being able to do things I love like gardening, writing, drawing, painting, and more importantly, the things I used to take for granted...picking something up, hugging my wonderful son, feeding myself, opening a door or the fridge, cleaning myself... The second part of the meaning is thanking all of my family, friends, therapists and colleagues and digging into my inner strength to get a grip on dealing with and moving on with life with transverse myelitis.  Not to sound cliche, but this life-altering journey has raised my love of life and truly made me stronger and happier than I already was before...I want to support and be there for those that it has been more devastating for.

Please consider donating & coming out on October 5!  Even if you can't be there with us in person, you can still donate & be a part of Team Get a Grip! No amount is too big or too small!  My goal is to raise a minimum of $2,500 in support of the Transverse Myelitis Association.

Registration opens at 8 am and the walk-run-roll will begin at 9:45 AM.  There are 1 mile and 3k routes.  There will be activities for the kids, music, a DJ, food and lots of hope and encouragement for the individuals and their familes whose daily opponent is Transverse Myelitis.

Thanks SO much for reading this and being williing to become more educated on Transverse Myelitis!  If you would like to read more about TM and related demyelinating disorders please go to http://myelitis.org

One last note...I am dedicating my participation in this important day to my sister Kathryn (Kathe), she was there when I needed her more than a friend or sister could ever ask, and I know she will always be there, as I am for her.

Love, health and happiness to all of you,
Chelle
