Imagine waking up one morning feeling like you had the flu, and never feeling better. Imagine not being able to drive, sit at the table with family for dinner or even shower on your own. Imagine being told by a doctor that you have a lifelong, debilitating illness, but they have no medicine or treatment for you.
These are common realities of those who suffer from DYSAUTONOMIA, a disorder of the autonomic nervous system, affecting approximately 70 million people worldwide. Sadly, most people have never heard of it, including many doctors, and as a result, patients are slow to be properly diagnosed and left with unclear treatment plans and ineffective medicines.
For this reason, we have organized a 5K and fun run to help bring awareness and generate funds for research – more research means faster diagnosis, proper treatment options, and potentially, even a cure!
We invite you to participate in the inaugural Run for DREAMS, on Saturday, October 8, 2016, at Burroughs Park in Tomball, TX, benefiting Dysautonomia International. This event will feature a 5K Trail Run, as well as a 1K Fun Run/Walk.
We appreciate your support to make our awareness event a success!
- $25 starting July 8, 2016
- $30 after July 31, 2016
- $35 after August 31, 2016
- $40 after September 30, 2016
Registration includes a t-shirt and post-race snacks and refreshments. T-shirts are guaranteed only to those registered by Friday, September 23, 2016, so please register early. Stroller riders are free.
Can’t make it out to the event but want to support the cause and get a shirt mailed to you? You can Sleep in for DREAMS for just $30!
If you cannot run or walk the 5K or 1K (or choose not to), please still come out to the event! It's a beautiful park with several family-friendly activities, with multiple playgrounds, volleyball courts, and a fishing pier for everyone to enjoy – and you will be supporting a great cause!
The funds raised from this walk will be donated to Dysautonomia International, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. Their mission is to identify the causes and cures for all forms of dysautonomia, and to enhance the quality of life for people currently living with these illnesses. “There is no cure for any form of dysautonomia at this time, and despite the high prevalence of dysautonomia, most patients take several years to get diagnosed due to a lack of awareness amongst the public and within the medical profession. Dysautonomia International is funding research to develop better treatments, and hopefully someday a cure for each form of dysautonomia.”
