BENEFITING: VEGETARIAN SOCIETY OF RICHMOND
EVENT DATE: Dec 25, 2011
Every year, instead of gifts, I ask my friends and family to donate to a cause.
This year I've selected the Vegetarian Society of Richmond (VSR). I joined the Vegetarian Society of Richmond when I made the decision to adopt a plant-based diet. I knew that more than information and tasty recipes, I needed a social support group. I only knew one vegan and she was not in my circle of friends. The monthly potlucks gave me a place to go where I didn't have to worry about what I would eat, I could talk to like-minded people and discover new recipes. The potlucks also supplemented all of the research that I did on my own with guest speakers who confirmed my decision. Eventually, I even got to show off my best dessert recipes. The VSR has been invaluable to me in my short 2 year journey of veganism.
Please join me this holiday season in supporting an awesome organization who works with little to do a lot!
About the Vegetarian Society of Richmond (in their words)
The Vegetarian Society of Richmond is a 501 (c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to promoting vegetarianism through education, activities and advocacy. We want to be a great resource for you by providing information about vegetarianism and related issues. We seek to unite vegetarians and those interested in vegetarianism in the Richmond area. Activities may include restaurant visits, potlucks, lectures, classes, hikes, field trips and outreach such as the annual Chili Cookoff, the Healthy Child Initiative, free literature distribution and the Richmond Vegetarian Festival. The Society recognizes that its members are vegetarians or interested in vegetarianism for a variety of reasons including personal health, religious beliefs, environmental concerns, animal rights and world hunger and that not all members share all of them. Our meetings are open to members and non-members alike and membership is open to both vegetarians and non-vegetarians. The Society is an all volunteer organization and depends upon donations of both time and money. Memberships sustain the Society as the only organization providing information on vegetarianism in the Richmond area.
