BENEFITING: POPLAR SPRING ANIMAL SANCTUARY INC
EVENT DATE: May 15, 2016
I'm raising money for the Run For the Animals event to help support the work that Poplar Spring Animal Sanctuary does every day. There are so many animals there who need care, and many animals who need the sanctuary as a safe place to go in the future. I am doing this for Moses and all his friends at Poplar Spring Sanctuary!
Moses was born on an Amish dairy farm in PA, and when the veal truck came to collect all the calves, Moses's mother hid him. When the farmer later found him after the truck was gone, he was angry, because the truck only came once a week, and he didn't want to let Moses nurse from his mother. He wanted to sell all of her milk for profit, which is what all dairy farms do. So he took Moses away from his mom, and left him out in a field. A woman who was visiting the farm saw him, and asked the farmer if he was going to feed Moses. When he just turned and walked away, she knew she had to take the tiny calf to save his life. With the farmers permission she brought him to Animal Rescue Inc. in PA, a wonderful sanctuary who cared for him for his first two months. But they did not have space for a full grown cow. Moses is one of the very few lucky ones, as most dairy calves are killed for veal when they are only a few months old.
