Many of you know that I have been running for nearly 20 years. In that time I have only raised money for charities three times: twice for Breast Cancer, which many of you know my mother continues to battle bravely and once for Celiac Disease Awareness, which my mother-in-law lives with. It quickly became clear I was going to be running in a lot of races, and I decided instead to simply donate my own money to my specific causes and donate to the causes other friends ran, walked or cycled for. So after many years of not asking for help, I am asking everyone I know to donate as much or as little as they can to Shred Kids' Cancer which was started by a really cool kid who lives just up the street from us. He started this very special charity because he wanted to help a friend of his who had cancer -- but his idea grew.
SHRED KIDS CANCER HAS RAISED OVER $100,000 FOR PEDIATRIC CANCER RESEARCH AND INVOLVED THOUSANDS OF VOLUNTEERS. IT WAS STARTED BY A KID AND IS RUN BY KIDS.
Below is the link to my profile page and to sponsor me in the Los Angeles Marathon. I will be running a relay with another Shred Kids' Cancer team member to help raise funds and awareness as part of my training for the 1/2 Ironman I will be participating in this March in Oceanside. :
If everyone I email donates just $5, I will more than reach my goal of $1000. And you probably won't get another email like this from me for another decade.
Thank you so much!
More about Shred Kids' Cancer from their website: Shred Kids' Cancer is a charity that lets kids try and do something for these other kids who are suffering. Its a way to make the kids who have cancer know that we are here for them and show them we care and give them strength. More importantly, we found out that Kids' Cancer is an "orphan disease. It is too expensive for drug companies to make drugs to treat many pediatric cancers so it is difficult for kids to get proper treatments. That is where we come in. We raise awareness and funds to help allow clinical trials to be conducted and find a cure! We have raised over $100,000 and donated to clinical trails at Children's Hospital Los Angeles and Mattel Children's Hospital UCLA.
