Why do we exist?
From the Great Lakes to our hundreds of inland lakes and streams--our natural resources have helped nurture a distinct Michigan way of life.
Passing our experiences and traditions on to our children, stewarding our land and lakes so that our children and grandchildren can continue to enjoy them– these are core values shared by countless Michiganders.
Unfortunately, that commitment is not always reflected in the policies created by our elected officials in Lansing and across the state. We work to change that.
What makes us unique?
We help educate legislators and officials on the key issues facing our state and help them make smart policies that enrich and protect our natural resources.
We are committed to helping every Michigan citizen understand how they can protect our natural resources and empower them to carry that message to the people elected to represent them in Lansing.
What are we working on now?
Toxic algae in Lake Erie and beyond
Voter engagement - Encouraging more Michiganders to take part in the democratic process. Unless we vote and engage with our elected officials, how can we expect them to stand up for the conservation issues that matter to us?
Great Michigan - MichiganLCV Education Fund brings together Michigan’s many diverse environmental and conservation organizations through Great Michigan. By coming together, Great Michigan groups create a common set of key environmental priorities and work together to achieve real policy solutions. The common priority issues that Great Michigan member groups are working on this year are:
- Passing strong clean energy policy,
- Encouraging conservation of Michigan's most iconic landscapes,
- Curbing the pollution of our waterways caused by nutrient pollution and toxic algae,
- Ensuring adequate safeguards for our clean water from oil and gas pipelines,
- Creating a strong statewide recycling strategy,
- Investing in and nurturing public and non-motorized transportation options.
