Stuff About Me:

My Aunt Carol DeVuono was diagnosed with stage IV Pancreatic Cancer in June 2014.  Although my Aunt Carol knew what this meant, she was determine to stay strong and fight this battle for her family. She endured 14 months of grueling chemo treatments, many hospital visits, and many doctor visits and test. Carol knew how grime the survival rate was for pancreatic cancer and how many families this disease affects.  She was determined to bring awareness and funding to this cancer.  In August Aunt Carol received the news that her chemo treatments were no longer working and her tumor was growing but she was not ready give up. Aunt Carol  agreed  to travel to San Antonio three days a week to go on clinic trails. She knew these trails would most probably not help stop her cancer but could possible help develop new chemo drugs for others. Aunt Carol spent four weeks in trails, somedays spending up to 12 hours a day at the clinic. . I really thought nothing could stop my Aunt, not even cancer. On October 14, 2015 Aunt Carol was called to Heaven. She would want nothin else then for everyone to continue to Wage Hope for those who have been diagnosed with the Second Deadliest Cancer.

I’ve participated and help organize in multiple Purple Stride in San Antonio/Austin to help raise funds in the last 4 year. For 3 of those years I’ve traveled to Washington D.C. to met with legislators to advocate for funding for pancreatic cancer research. In 2015 I became the Advocacy Chair for the Austin Pancreatic Cancer Affiliate.

Today, October 26, 2017. I am going to check off running a Marathon on my bucket list, but what better way to fulfill my dream but also live my Aunt Carol dream. I’ll be running in Memory of Carol DeVuono while be a team member for Project Purple.

The money raised for Project Purple helps us fulfill our mission statement by funding several crucial programs.Project Purple provides funding for critical pancreatic cancer research. Thanks to our donors we are helping fund research for an early detection test for pancreatic cancer. There is currently no form of early detection for this deadly form of cancer. The best odds at survival come when the disease is caught in its earliest stages. We also fund studies which seek effective methods to treat this deadly disease. Finally, we offer grants to graduate students who are pursuing a career in pancreatic cancer research. We at Project Purple also recognize there are patients who are fighting pancreatic cancer right now and they need our help. Project Purple assists current patients through our Patient Financial Aid program. We also provide patients with Blankets of Hope Care Bags. We believe no one should this battle on their own.Though the five-year survival rate for pancreatic cancer stands at just 9%, we know that with your help we can make our vision of a world without pancreatic cancer a reality!
