Alan Shebaro is an ambassador of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, an Army Veteran, and co-founder of a non-profit organization that helps veterans with mental health and serious disabilities through physical training (The We Defy Foundation). But his primary duty is being a helpful son to his father. If you are unaware of who Alan is I have included the link to his bio from his gym’s page Tier 1 Training Facility in McKinney, TX ( HYPERLINK "http://www.tier1tf.com/new-page-1/" http://www.tier1tf.com/new-page-1/).
Recently, Alan’s father was diagnosed with Anaplastic Thyroid Carcinoma (ATC). This is a very rare form of cancer and there are currently only two locations that specialize in treatment for this disease. Because the disease is so rare, the treatment is very expensive –one of his father’s medications is $8,000 per dose! Alan has done everything he could to come up with money to help with his father’s medical expenses; he has emptied his savings and is in the process of selling his home to liquidate funds. His parents are also selling their home to cover medical expenses.
Since Alan has given so much to the Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu community and our Country through his time with the Army and Army Special Forces, I wanted to do something that would help him out. With the help of my friend and my BJJ professor, William J. Fox, we have decided that we would do a charity event where 100% of the money raised will go directly to Alan’s to help pay for his father’s medical expenses.
