For those of you who know me, know that No Kill shelters hit close to home!! I have 3 fur babies that are my life, a lot of the support and services we received for our dogs where through a No-Kill shelter in San Antonio. I often joke about having a very unhealthy relationship with my dogs; however, it is not a joke lol!! The love and loyalty a dog will give to you just amazes me! I am the person that visits NYC and goes into Duane Reade and buys a box of treats to give to the homeless people sitting on the sidewalks with their dog, instead of giving them $5!!!
I decided to run for Mighty Mutts because of my sweet girl Jezabell!! My fiance and I found Jezabell living on the streets of the South side of San Antonio, TX. We found her in 2010 when we took my mother in Law to lunch, and Jezabell was walking around the parking lot greeting people as they got out of their cars!! When she walked up to us, she rolled over and peed all over herself; that was the moment that she won me over!! We went in and ate lunch, I couldnt stop thinking about her I was terrified she was going to wonder out in the road and get hit, or that she was going to take off!! My mother in law said "if she is still out there when we leave it was meant to be." When were out to lunch with my Fiances boss as well, when we were paying I felt a punch on the arm and when I turned around, AJ's boss was already out side with Jezabell scooped up in his arms!! We took her home and she was instantly inseparable with our Boston Terrier!! She was finally home!!
We took her to the Animal Defense League of San Antonio where they provide Low cost assistance and services for animals. Jezabell had fleas the size of carpetner ants, all 4 types of intestinal worms, over grown nails and was filthy!! They fixed her up good as new and also provided spaying and microchipping!!
Strays are the most loyal, loving dogs I have ever come across!! Jezabell is the most grateful dog, she shows us how thankful she is every day...even 6 years later!! She has a fear of being abandoned and I dont blame her!!
