I was in the 8th grade when I had my first migraine. The doctor in the ER told me that I had experienced a "Classic Migraine" and would most likely continue to have them for the rest of my life. I was given a list of triggers I should avoid, a prescription for what I always referred to as my horse pills and a "good luck with that" from the Dr. I spent the next 5 years avoiding all triggers (including chocolate...yes....I didn't eat chocolate for at least 5 years!!) to no avail. I still can't say for sure what my triggers are, but there is no denying the aura right before the next one starts along with the fear of the pain I know is coming. I have to say that I am lucky that I don't have them nearly as often as many others. I haven't yet found a medication that works for me, but I have hope that someday I will. I didn't even know that the Migraine Research Foundation existed until I found their website after an especially bad attack. I had already registered for the New York City Marathon lottery, but I knew that there was a very slim chance I would be chosen. When I saw that the Migraine Research Foundation had a team, I knew I had to join. Please help me achieve my fundraising goal by donating whatever you can. As a migraine sufferer it is comforting to know this organization is there, working everyday to find a cure.

RUN FOR A REASON!
The mission of the Migraine Research Foundation is to assist sufferers by providing information and support and to end the debilitating pain of migraine by raising funds for innovative research to further the understanding of its causes, to develop improved treatment targets, and to find the cure.
Although 36 million Americans suffer the debilitating pain, migraine is still misunderstood, under-diagnosed and under-funded. Sufferers wage a constant battle with family, friends, and colleagues that don't take the crippling symptoms seriously. 14 million face chronic pain (15 or more days a month) and a life of disability. 10% of school-age children battle migraine, even infants. Women suffer at a rate three times greater than men. Every 10 seconds, someone goes to the emergency room with a headache or migraine. U.S. employers lose more than $13 billion a year from 113 million lost work days due to migraine.
Despite its major impact on society, businesses, and families, migraine research is severely underfunded. Many doctors are still under-informed or unsympathetic, and very few are specialists in the field.
Effective treatments, prevention, and a cure will only come from research into migraine's causes.
Our operating costs are completely underwritten, so ALL DONATIONS GO DIRECTLY TO FUND MIGRAINE RESEARCH.
