On the 22nd February we will be running 13miles to raise money for IFOPA. As some of you may know, this is a cause very close to our hearts. The aim is to help fund research to find a cure for one of the rarest, most disabling genetic conditions known to medicine.
For those who have not heard of FOP it causes bone to form in muscles, tendons, ligaments and other connective tissues. Bridges of extra bone develop across joints, progressively restricting movement and forming a second skeleton that can imprison the body in bone.
IFOPA is a non-profit organization supporting medical research, education and communication for those afflicted by the rare genetic condition Fibrodysplasia Ossificans Progressiva (FOP). Their mission is to fund research to find a cure for FOP while supporting individuals and their families through education, public awareness and advocacy.
As I’m sure you can guess, running 13miles is a big ask for the sofa-dwelling, wine-guzzling pair that we are. Until we started training a few weeks ago neither of us had run more than 5km outside and trips to the gym had generally involved standing around talking, looking in the mirror and watching the TVs rather than any exercise. However we are now very determined to complete this challenge and therefore hope you will donate to our cause, even if for no other reason than to see our blood, sweat and tears!
Any donations, no matter how small will be gratefully received and go directly to the research of FOP and the aim to find a cure.
